“We’ve just got to burst their bloody canon

by the sheer volume and quality of what we say.”

(Liz Lochhead, Meantime)

Scottish Women Poets is dedicated to the traditions of women’s poetry in Scots, Anglo-Scots, English and Gaelic, from Joanna Baillie to Kathleen Jamie.

The website was constructed by the students in Dr Alison Chapman’s English 471 class at UVic in the Winter of 2013. As part of their assignments, the students created this resource on the poets and poems that they studied.

  1. Alison: came across this by chance – a great resource! I recently edited the Companion to Scottish Women’s Writing (Edinburgh: EUP, 2012) and if this had been available I could have included a reference. Many women writers here not even remembered in Scotland.
